Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Ravenshead C of E Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), feel safe, valued and supported to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Our inclusive approach is rooted in our Christian vision of ‘Taking Care, Together’, where every child is recognised as unique, precious and capable of success.

We believe that all pupils should have equality of opportunity and access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. Guided by the SEND Code of Practice (2014), we place a strong emphasis on early identification, high-quality teaching and timely, personalised support so that barriers to learning are identified and addressed as soon as possible

All teachers at Ravenshead are teachers of pupils with SEND. Quality First Teaching, adaptive approaches and inclusive classroom practice form the foundation of our provision. Where additional support is needed, pupils may access targeted interventions, specialist resources or small-group and one-to-one support, carefully matched to individual needs.

We work closely with children, parents and carers, valuing their views and ensuring they are fully involved in decisions about support and provision. Pupils’ voices are actively sought and their wellbeing, confidence and independence are prioritised alongside academic progress.

Our SEND provision is led by an experienced team, including:

Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion / SENCO (KS1 & KS2): Mrs Sarah Soley

EYFS SENCO: Miss Alex Sutcliffe

SEND Link Governor: Mrs Sarah Page

We also work collaboratively with a range of external agencies and support services, including educational psychology, health professionals and specialist teachers, to ensure pupils receive the right support at the right time.

Through a graduated Assess, Plan, Do, Review approach, we regularly monitor progress and adapt provision to ensure pupils with SEND are supported to:

  • Make progress from their individual starting points
  • Develop confidence, resilience and independence
  • Feel a strong sense of belonging within the school community

Further details about our approach to SEND, including Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA), interventions, EHCPs and parental support, can be found in our SEND Policy, available below.
