Welcome to Squirrels!
Mrs Howard loves teaching English, Geography, History, Art and Music, and also loves singing and being outside doing activities in the woods. Mrs Howard loves teaching Year 4, especially around Christmas when we put on our version of the Nativity, and also in the terms when we get to spend even more time in the woods, putting our woods skills to use to make a toy for a tribal child and learning how to cook an Anglo-Saxon stew over a fire.
Mrs Keightley love reading and anything craft based, though she'll be the first to admit that drawing is not her strong point! Mrs Keightley has lots of experience working with this year group, and she always looks forward to the fun, curiosity and brilliant ideas they bring to the classroom. Her favourite subject is History and she also loves teaching English, especially writing, and we’ll be studying some wonderful books that will inspire our work throughout the year. can’t wait for all the learning, creativity and adventures ahead in Year 5!
We have a superb year planned for you with lots of exciting work. We are going to start by exploring what Anglo Saxon Britain was really like. In the run up to Christmas, we will be learning how to put on a performance which we will then show to all of our wonderful families! We'll be learning how our world is being affected by weather and climate change in the Spring term and considering how climate makes life different in Canada and Sicily. In the summer term, we will be looking at what life was like in pre-historic Britain before finishing off the year by learning about the differences between our forests and rainforests. Throughout the year, we will also be learning art and DT skills which link to our topics, as well as improving our Science, Computing, Music and Spanish skills, and learning some skills for life.
We are hoping to enrich your learning experience with an Anglo-Saxon Day (costumes at the ready!), an investigating Weather and Climate Day, a trip to Creswell Crags, a visit from the Partake History company to find out more about the Mayans, and a residential to Castleton.
We hope you are all ready to drive into our wonderful learning. We can’t wait and we know you are going to be filled with excitement.
