Robins (Year 5) - Mrs Keightley and Mrs Baker
Mrs Keightley
I love reading and love anything craft based, though I'll be the first to admit that drawing is not my strong point!
I have lots of experience working with this year group, and I always look forward to the fun, curiosity and brilliant ideas they bring to the classroom.
My favourite subject is History, and we’re going to have a fantastic time exploring the Romans together. Later in the year, we’ll also dive into the history of our local area, discovering how the past has shaped the world we live in today.
We have some exciting trips planned, including a visit to Papplewick Pumping Station, a hands-on Partake Roman workshop day, and a trip to the Veolia Recycling Plant as part of our environment project (it’s a great trip and much better than it sounds—I promise!).
I also love teaching English, especially writing, and we’ll be studying some wonderful books that will inspire our work throughout the year.
I can’t wait for all the learning, creativity and adventures ahead in Year 5!
Mrs Baker
I love working with Year 5 and have taught in upper KS2 for more years than I’d like to mention! My favourite subject is maths—there’s nothing better than seeing that moment when a tricky concept finally clicks with our pupils!
I enjoy reading and love getting fully immersed in our class novels. We recently read Beetle Boy and it was brilliant listening to the children’s predictions about how this mystery might unfold. I also love a good singsong! Despite not having the most angelic voice myself, teaching music and hearing the children sing together is one of my favourite parts of being a primary school teacher!
In Robin’s class, we set plenty of challenges—mainly mathematical ones—and it’s wonderful to see the children so inspired that they complete extra work at home just to make it onto the leaderboard!
We have such an exciting year to look forward to in Year 5!
