We are really proud of the music provision we offer at Ravenshead and were very proud to become a Music Mark school last year.   The Music Mark Schools programme celebrates and supports schools who are committed to providing a high-quality music education for their children.  We were awarded this on behalf of Music Mark by Inspire who are the Nottinghamshire Music Hub.

Our children have many opportunities to perform to an audience, both inside and outside of school:

Performances within school:

  • Christmas Performance - ‘Carols around the tree’ – a beautiful evening of readings, traditional carols and modern Christmas songs.
  • Easter Performance – ‘The tale of three trees’ (2025)
  • Summer Performance – ‘A night at the musicals’ (2025)

Performances outside of school:

  • Remembrance service at Ravenshead Village Hall
  • Regular performances at St. Peters Church, Ravenshead
  • Carol concert at Kings Mill Hospital, Mansfield
  • Outdoor concert at Joseph Whitaker School, Rainworth

It has been a really exciting time for music at Ravenshead and we are proud to celebrate this by becoming a Music Mark school!  The Music Mark Schools programme celebrates and supports schools who are committed to providing a high quality music education for their children.  We were awarded this on behalf of Music Mark by Inspire who are the Nottinghamshire Music Hub.

Arts Award Success Summer 2023

Over the last few weeks, some of our children have been working towards their Inspire Nottinghamshire Music Hub Creative Arts Bronze Award. Eight children submitted their portfolio and Gary Haynes from Inspire came in to examine what the children produced. He was extremely impressed with the standard of work from all eight children and each portfolio passed! He awarded a commendation to four children for going above and beyond in their work.

Ravenshead Rocks Choir Perform Christmas Carols at Kingsmill Hospital - December 2023.

Our wonderful Ravenshead Rocks Choir were busy singing again last week and this time it was at Kings Mill Hospital.  We took over 60 children who provided an hour of entertainment to visitors to the hospital and they were absolutely fantastic.  Not only did the choir sing various Christmas carols and songs but we were treated to some wonderful solos and duets as well.  Our children are so talented and it is a pleasure to share their talent with our local community.

St Peter’s Church Christmas Fayre – 25th November 2023.

Our choir were invited to perform for this and did so wonderfully.  The programme of singing lasted for an hour and included full choir singing songs such as Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bell Rock and The Twelve Days of Christmas as well as solos and duets from our talented children.  It was a wonderful concert and we can’t wait for the next one!

For Remembrance Service this year, Ravenshead Rocks Choir (80 members in total) walked into the village and participated in a Remembrance Day service with members of the community and Revd. Kate. Thank you to all of the parents and carers who helped walk us down to the village hall and supported the children throughout.

World Music Day Concert

Still image for this video
A wonderful solo performed for the school World Day Concert. During the course of the afternoon, there was a performance of the Star Wars theme tune by the school orchestra, songs sung by the school choir and lots of group and individual performances by the children. There was a whole host of instruments played as well as singing solos - all performed to a huge parent audience.

The children were absolutely AMAZING!

Playing with the Halle Orchestra - Now Hear This!

We were privileged to take ten children to play with the Halle Orchestra at the Royal Concert Hall on 24th June, 2023..  A number of schools attended and we all joined in with two pieces - Ran Kan Kan; and Fish and Chips and Mushy Peas.  There was a huge variety of instruments played by the children - they did a great job!  The theme to to the day was space and we got to hear some famous pieces of classical music all space themed - it was amazing!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Ravenshead Rocks Singers - Sing Up Performance

Sing Up Open Air Concert

Ravenshead Rocks Singers took part in the Joseph Whitaker Family of Schools on 6th. July, 2023.  The theme was musicals and each of the local primary schools performed a classic show tune.  Our piece was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the children sang it beautifully whilst performing actions.  All of the choirs then joined together for the finale to perform a song from Sister Act and a song from Hairspray.  The event was great fun with all of the parents singing along and as it was held outside, had a real festival feel to it.  We're excited to participate again next year!
