Late/Absence Procedures

If your child is ill or unable to attend school:

Please phone the Main Reception on 01623 456516 to inform us if your child will not be attending school and provide the reason for their absence.  The Main Reception is open from 8.30am until 4.15pm and outside of these hours, a message can be left on the school answer machine.  You will be contacted if your child is absent and the Main Reception has not received any notification.  This is for safeguarding purposes.

If your child arrives late to school:

The school day begins at:

Keystage 2                            8.50am

Keystage 1/Foundation 2         8.55am

Foundation 1                          8.55am

If the gates to the school or your child's classroom door are locked, you will need to take your child to the Main Reception (at the front of the school on Swinton Rise).

In Keystage 2

If your child arrives after 9.00am but before 9.30am, a ‘L’ code will be entered into the register to record that they are late attending school.

If your child should arrive after 9.30am then this will be classed as an unauthorised absence and will be marked with a ‘U’ in the attendance register.

In Foundation/Keystage 1

If your child arrives after 9.05am but before 9.30am, a ‘L’ code will be entered into the register to record that they are late attending school.

If your child should arrive after 9.30am then this will be classed as an unauthorised absence and will be marked with a ‘U’ in the attendance register.

If your child is persistently late (marked with a 'L' code in the reigister) for 10 separate instances over a period of 6 school weeks, an attendance letter will be sent from school.

If your child has 10 unauthorised late absences within a 6 week period, a Penalty Notice may be issued by the Local Authority.  You will be informed of this in writing.

We understand that there all families experience difficulties at times and would encourage you to talk to us if your child is having difficulty attending school or arriving on time as it may be that we are able to put measures in place to support your child.
