  • OPAL PLAY LAUNCHED TODAY!

    Wed 17 Apr 2024

Today, the children have been told about OPAL play and how it will transform their lunchtimes.

Did you know that play makes up 20% of school life? Your child's play per academic year in school is 231 hours (equivalent to 37 days which is 7.4 weeks)!

The program takes 18 months to complete with the school site being developed during this period, with the children fully involved in the process. Have a look at the attached video which shows a school that has already been on the journey.

We are having a 'soft start' this term before we really go for it in September! On May 20th, the children from Foundation to Year 6 will mix at playtimes and be able to access the whole school site (apart from the school woods). There will be music playing and equipment such as chalks, bubbles, dressing up, small world play, teddies.

The Opal Play team (who will be working hard to make lunchtimes amazing for your children) are:

    Mrs Keightley - Curriculum Lead.
    Mrs Broadhead - Play Coordinator.
    Mrs Reader - Parent Champion
    Mrs Henson - Governor Champion.

Over this term, we will be giving families a regular update in the weekly newsletter, hopefully sharing some pictures to show how it is going as well as asking for any items that you may have lying around that you no longer need.

  • Christingle

    Mon 18 Dec 2023

We enjoyed a wonderful day of making Christingles, learning about the meaning and then joining together in a special Christingle service.  Seeing all of the wonderful lights from the Christingles was magical.

  • Kings Mill Hospital - Ravenshead Rocks Choir Performance

    Thu 14 Dec 2023

Our wonderful Ravenshead Rocks Choir were busy singing again last week and this time it was at Kings Mill Hospital.  We took over 60 children who provided an hour of entertainment to visitors to the hospital and they were absolutely fantastic.  Not only did the choir sing various Christmas carols and songs but we were treated to some wonderful solos and duets as well.  Our children are so talented and it is a pleasure to share their talent with our local community.

  • St Peter’s Church Christmas Fayre

    Sat 25 Nov 2023

Our choir were invited to perform for this and did so wonderfully.  The programme of singing lasted for an hour and included full choir singing songs such as Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bell Rock and The Twelve Days of Christmas as well as solos and duets from our talented children.  It was a wonderful concert and we can’t wait for the next one!

  • Children in Need

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

To support the wonderful charity, Children in Need, all of the children dressed up in something spotty and donated £1 to this worthwhile cause.  There was a wonderful array of Pudsey ears, pyjamas, onesies and some children even had their faces painted with spots or the Pudsey bandana!

  • Remembrance

    Fri 10 Nov 2023

Today, the children have all participated in Remembrance Day services. 80 children, myself and Mrs Eyre walked into the village and participated in a Remembrance Day service with members of the community and Revd. Kate. Thank you to all of the parents and carers who helped walk us down to the village hall and supported the children throughout.

The remaining children in school participated in a whole school service with Mrs Keightley, learning a little more about the significance of the poppy at this poignant time.

  • Sing Up Outside Concert

    Thu 06 Jul 2023

    Sing Up Open Air Concert

Ravenshead Rocks Singers took part in the Joseph Whitaker Family of Schools on 6th. July, 2023.  The theme was musicals and each of the local primary schools performed a classic show tune.  Our piece was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the children sang it beautifully whilst performing actions.  All of the choirs then joined together for the finale to perform a song from Sister Act and a song from Hairspray.  The event was great fun with all of the parents singing along and as it was held outside, had a real festival feel to it.  We're excited to participate again next year!

  • Now Hear This! - playing with theHalle Orchestra

    Fri 23 Jun 2023

We were privileged to take ten children to play with the Halle Orchestra at the Royal Concert Hall.  A number of schools attended and we all joined in with two pieces - Ran Kan Kan; and Fish and Chips and Mushy Peas.  There was a huge variety of instruments played by the children - they did a great job!  The theme to to the day was space and we got to hear some famous pieces of classical music all space themed - it was amazing!

  • Silver X Road Safety Talk

    Fri 24 Feb 2023

The Foundation children had a wonderful time exploring the cab of a HGV when it visited the school.  They loved seeing all of the controls, enjoyed hearing the horn sound and particularly liked peering into the sleeping quarters.  All of the children got to climb in the cab and pretend to be a driver too.  The children then listened to a safety talk about road safety and how it can be difficult for lorry drivers in particular to see them.

  • Police Safety Awareness Visit

    Wed 08 Feb 2023

We were delighted to welcome the Operation Reacher team to school to speak to the children about how to keep themselves safe and they absolutely loved exploring the police vehicles including trying on some of the riot helmets.  The children asked lots of questions about the police and these were answered in a reassuring way, helping the children to understand how the police could help them in difficult situations.  The children were absolutely buzzing by the end of the day and we can’t praise the team enough for the time they spent with the children.
