Rabbits (Year 1/2) - Mrs Walker's and Mrs Swanston's Class
Welcome to Rabbits. Your teachers are Mrs Walker and Mrs Swanston. Mrs Walker loves teaching Phonics, Reading, PE, RSHE and creative activities, and also enjoys reading stories. Mrs Swanston's favourite time of the day is also story time. She is always on the lookout for an exciting new book to share with the children and can often be found immersed in a good book with a group of children in our reading area.
At the beginning of Year 1/2 we operate in a similar style to Foundation with some taught sessions for Phonics, Maths, English and RE, and Continuous Provision to cover other areas of the curriculum. So, there are plenty of opportunities to learn through play as well as learning in a more formal style. As the year progresses, we move towards a more formal style to get the children ready for life in the rest of the school. Throughout the year, we also have a weekly PE session and a weekly session in our lovely woodland.
We cover some wonderful topics in Year 1. One year, we learn about the Arctic, Thomas Barnado, how we can find our way in the world using maps, how Christmas began and learn about Ravenshead in the past and compare it to life there now. The next year, we learn about how we can show courage, heroes, how Peru compares to England, what pirates discovered abouthe world and how women in medicine changed the world. It's going to be great learning together!
We are all looking forward to a very exciting year with you.
